HOW TO USE LEATHER CONDITIONER DIRECTIONS FOR SKIDMORE’S LEATHER CREAM AND SKIDMORES BEESWAX WATERPROOFING

November 20, 2021 Kevin Luebke

Application is just one of a few simple yet important steps in leather care. Download my free guide to get the most out of every leather item you own.

I use Skidmore’s Leather Cream for flexibility, replacing lost oils in the leather and general conditioning. I use Skidmore’s Beeswax Waterproofing to hold up to the elements, build water resistance and act as a protective topcoat.

HOW TO APPLY LEATHER CONDITIONER SKIDMORE’S LEATHER CREAM AND OR BEESWAX WATERPROOFING

1.       Start with clean and dry smooth leather (will not work on suede).

2.       Skidmore’s and almost every product out there will darken leather a shade or two. Test in an inconspicuous spot if color is an issue.

3.       Use an applicator of some type-soft cloth works well-never apply direct to leather. You could over condition, get dark spots or simply waste product.

4.       Apply to leather in even and circular motion. Less is more-just enough conditioner to soak in.

5.       Do some rapid motion buffing with your sparingly loaded applicator-friction helps heat the leather and conditioner slightly, so it absorbs better.

6.       If it soaks in quick and “feels” thirsty, apply again. If it doesn’t soak in-wipe away excess.

7.       Pay attention to edges-they will soak up more and need the additional protection.

8.       If excess conditioner has dried on the surface use your applicator to reactivate it. Then wipe off the excess right away.

9.      Give a minute or two and then wipe away excess/buff with new a clean cloth (not your applicator).

10.   At this point you can place Skidmore’s Beeswax Waterproofing right on top of your newly conditioned leather following the same steps as above. Skidmore’s Waterproofing serves as a topcoat and adds moisture resistance.
